Sundays

Each week, a committed team of volunteers and staff work together to create a wonderful experience for our guests: Some greet newcomers, others make coffee, many plan games for children and lead small groups for students, still others run sound or lights or play instruments on the worship team. Interested in serving? We would love to have you join the team!

Currently we are in need of volunteers to serve in the following arenas at the 9am and 10:30am services:

  • Welcome Team: 1-2 times per month, serve as a greeter.

  • Usher Team: 1-2 times per month serve communion, assist guests in seating.

  • Children’s Ministry Team: 2-4 times per month assistants and teachers are needed for ages birth - 6th.

  • Audio-Visual Team: assist in running sound and slides.

  • Musical Worship Team: use your musical gift and skillset to help lead others in musical worship. Vocalists and instrumentalists welcome.

Locally

Adopt a School

Christ Church believes in giving back to the local neighborhood. One way we do this is by serving our local schools.

Gidley Elementary School: This elementary school draws students from under-resourced neighborhoods in El Monte. We have a great crew of volunteers from our church fellowship who are serving as classroom volunteers at Gidley School during this 2018-2019 school year --- helping students with their reading, writing, and math skills. We are excited to serve God by serving these students and teachers! You can learn more about Gidley School here.

If you would like more information on the church’s ministry on this campus, please contact Bob Ver Burg at bverburg@smccnet.org.

Pasadena High School: We value the special relationship which has been established between Christ Church and Pasadena High School. It has been a privilege to share our facilities with PHS for special school functions over the past few years. We have also been excited to watch what God has done through the Young Life ministry on campus over the past few years.

One way God has allowed us to bless the school occurs on Monday mornings, when a team of people from Christ Church provide breakfast for the staff at Pasadena High School. If you would like more information on this ministry, please contact Jim Mullally at the church office.

Sierra Madre Elementary School: Just a few blocks away and home to many of our students, we provide some Christmas cheer each year for the teachers, with needed school supplies gathered from their wish lists. We volunteer for tutoring, groundskeeping and clean-up days.

Globally

Casa De Dios

Participation in the Casa De Dios (“House from God”) translates the words of Jesus Christ, “…as you have done to the least of these my brethren, you have done unto Me” into responsive hearts and hands of outreach.

In just one weekend, our team will provide a badly needed 16’x20′, 3-room, weatherproof home with a loft for a poor family living in slum conditions.  The houses are durable, efficiently designed, and serve families for many years. Multiple rooms give the family needed privacy and dignity.

Pastoral Residency & Internships

Christ Church seeks to train the next generation of passionate, mature, capable, and theologically grounded church leaders for effective ministry in our increasingly post-Christian context.

Christ Church offers two different tracks for vocational development, a Pastoral Residency track and an Internship track.

  • The Pastoral Residency track is designed for post-college adults who sense a vocation in pastoral ministry. Serving as a church-based complement to seminary, the Pastoral Residency program serves as a bridge for those seeking vocational ministry. Central to the program is one-on-one mentoring in pastoral arts such as preaching, spiritual direction, counseling, worship & liturgy, and teaching. To maximize the impact of the program, the director works with each resident to co-create an individualized track of study as well as guided experience in the pastoral arts. The program is 12-18 months long, and pastoral residents are eligible for lodging and financial support.

  • The Internship Track is aimed towards college-aged young adults who desire more experience in a particular arena of church leadership such as (but not limited to) children’s ministries, community life, youth ministries (middle, high school and college), worship & liturgy, and media arts (film, social media). In addition to reading through the Bible during their internship, interns read and discuss books from our PRIP Reader List (see below). This list is designed to ground future leaders in the historic Christian faith. Internships are 12 months long, and interns receive a financial stipend.
